Three words: Lobster Pronto Pup, but I'll get to that in a second.
Does my boyfriend know me well or what?! For Valentine's Day he didn't just take me on a date, he took me on an Eating in Memphis date to cross something else off our list!! That boy seriously knows the way to my heart. He took us to Rizzo's Diner located in my favorite part of Memphis, the South Main Arts District.
Now, in the picture above you can pretty much see the entire restaurant. It. Is. Tiny! If you were to walk through this restaurant you can't walk shoulder to shoulder with someone. Single file it is. That doesn't mean that it isn't good. Just cozy.
After a little hiccup about the reservation we had, they told us they had a table for us in the back. They led us through this main restaurant, past the server's station into a little door that to an unsuspecting patron would be considered a closet. Through that door were a set of steps that led to another, slightly creepy door. Beyond that was "the back". A room with several tables, exposed brick walls, a fireplace, twinkle lights, and a tin roof. It was great! Even though it was slightly drafty, we enjoyed the atmosphere, it was perfect for us.
Back to the Lobster Pronto Pups. That was the item on the list that we had to eat!! I guess I should give some background. A Pronto Pup is a corn dog that can be purchased usually at festivals and sporting events. There are very few things that go on in Memphis in which Pronto Pups can't be found. The Lobster Pronto Pups definitely did not disappoint. Lobster on a stick, deep fried? Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds.
This place wasn't just atmosphere and pronto pups, the other food we had was just as good!! If you're looking for a nicer place to eat dinner downtown that won't break the bank, I recommend Rizzo's Diner.
