Really, Hollywood?

Does it seem that Hollywood is running out of movie ideas lately? When Jeremy and I watch TV it seems as if almost every commercial for a movie looks even worse than the one before. We are definitely the kind of couple that waits for the movie to come out on DVD then Redbox it, but seriously, "A Good Old Fashion Orgy"? Really, Hollywood? For some reason that doesn't make me want to jump off my couch and run to the movie theater. Or how about "Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star". I think I'll be staying away from the movie theater for a while... unless maybe I was going to see "The Help". Yeah, that book was so good. But still, my point is.. what is with all these ridiculous movies lately?

Maybe these movies wouldn't be so bad if I could watch them here...

Lazy Weekend

Sometimes it's nice to have a weekend with absolutely no plans. There was no place that I needed to be, no alarms needed to be set, there was nothing to do.. and it was awesome.

Normally our weekends are so busy with things we want to do and places we need to be so this was a nice change of pace. We went on a sushi date on Friday, watched lots of movies, and hung out by the pool on Saturday. I guess we can thank hurricane Irene for the beautiful weather here. Overall, it was a great weekend.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekends as well... and that those of you on the East coast stayed safe and dry. I'm off to attempt to make some homemade fruit leather, because it's my absolute favorite. Yes, I know I am a five year old. Ha! Wish me luck!

Fill In the Blank Friday (2)

Happy Friday.... so close to the weekend! Here's a fun link up with Lauren at the little things we do.

1.   One of life's most simple pleasures is  a cup of coffee.

2.  People without common sense makes me want to punch someone.

3.  I like gym dates because,  it makes working out way more fun.

4.  Jacuzzi is a funny word.

5.  If I had to choose one beauty product to use for the rest of eternity it would be  Burt's Bees Lip Balm. I think it's an addiction.. I've even blogged about it before here.

6.  I'm happy that next weekend is birthday weekend!! The boy and I both celebrate our birthdays next weekend. It's fun being only a day (and a few years) apart :)

7.  I would never wear gym sneakers with jeans.. I don't know why but this really bothers me.

What's For Dinner...

Linking up with Mallorie at Home is with you... for her first link up! By the way, if you haven't been to her blog, you should totally check it out.. it's great! Now, I wasn't necessarily prepared for this this week, BUT next week I am going to make a conscious effort to take a picture of dinner to link up with her again. This is a great idea.. I'm always looking for new things to make for dinner, especially vegetarian things.

Mexican pizzasss.. soooo good. Jeremy got creative with this one and elaborated on our Mexican crescent recipe. He put Spanish rice, black beans, cheddar cheese, and jalapenos inside. In his he also put some grilled chicken. On top, there were green olives, pico de gallo, and more cheese. After being in the oven for a bit we added some sour cream. They came out delicious! It kinda seems like we only eat Mexican food.. I promise we eat different things.

Flash Mob

There was a flash mob today at Villanova. I'm so sad I missed it! I graduated a little over a year ago and haven't really missed college. I enjoyed the four years I was there and think I had a great college experience. I was never the person who wanted more time there and I am extremely happy with where life has taken me and where I am now. However, seeing this flash mob made me kinda sad I wasn't there for the first day of classes. It's kinda funny how silly things like this make you feel certain ways. Anyways, doesn't this look so fun? Oh and yes, those are priests and the president of the University dancing hah!

UPDATE: This video is better :)

Oh, How Pinteresting - Autumn

Lately my pins have been all about Autumn.. think I'm ready for a break in this southern heat? I'm so anxious to wear boots again!

I have a problem...

... I wish away days. Lately I've been realizing that I get so excited for things to come that I wish away days. I'm afraid that one day I'll realize that my entire life past me by while I've just been waiting and anticipating what's ahead. I think it's ok to be excited about the future, and this weekends plans, and what I'm gonna do after work, but I also need to enjoy the moments I have.

Anyways, just some thoughts...

Remember that time...

we went fishing? on the golf course? and i caught the first fish? and you caught a baby fish?

The Simple Things (3)

It's an extremely rainy and grey day here.. a perfect day to really think about and appreciate all the simple things that bring happiness.

A good workout partner
Rainbows
Puppy snuggles
A sweet message from a friend
Crossing things off a to-do list

The Simple Things

Mexican Crescents

Jeremy and I have discovered a new favorite and easy dinner and so I thought I would share! Oh, and it's vegetarian but completely pleases the carnivores as well (ehemmm Jeremy). Pleaseeee forgive me for the awful pictures... I decided in the process of making these to take pics and yeah, they're terrible. I promise they'll be better in the future.

Through Pinterest and other recipe searching I had seen Mexican style crescent rolls before and always thought they looked delicious. We put our own spin on it.

Steps:

1- Split Pillsbury crescent dough in half to make two large burritos, pinch the perforations together so they don't separate in the oven.

2- We add a layer of Uncle Ben's Spanish Style Ready Rice (phew that's a mouthful). The spanish rice has nice flavoring that is yummy in this!

3- Add layer of shredded pepper jack cheese.

4- Layer of canned black beans.

5- More pepper jack!

6- Fold and pinch dough together sealing the burrito then put it in the oven until the crescent gets a nice light brown color. (After folding the burrito, we put some cheese on top as well)

7- When they're done, add some sour cream and pico de gallo.

And there you have it! Sooo goood.

What I love about this recipe is that things can be added and taken away based on what you feel like eating. For instance, we added some jalapenos to make it a little more spicy. You really can't go wrong!

I'm really looking forward to experimenting more with crescent rolls.. the ideas were flowing when we were making these.

Oh, How Pinteresting - Tie Dye

Now, for those of you who know me in real life, it is no secret that I love tie dye. I always have! I thought for today's Pinterest picks I'd share some of my favorite tie dye pics to brighten up this rainy day here..

Elvis Week 2011

The United States of America has had 44 presidents but only one King.

By way of introduction lets get a few things out of the way first. I'm not Alyssa is probably the first thing I'd like to point out. I'm Jeremy, Alyssa's boyfriend, but you guys might know me better as "the boy". Secondly, this is my first exploration into the world of blogging other than following the girl's (Alyssa) blog. Thirdly, I am originally from Memphis, TN and I'm also a big Elvis fan and the combination of those two facts is all you need to know about my expertise and ability to write this very special edition of Ten Feet Off Beale.

August 16, 1977 the world lost Elvis Presley tragically. Now for those of you not from Memphis, this might not mean much, but around here it's a really big deal. Now you may have seen some things about Elvis Week in Memphis, but to really see what goes on down here you really need to visit. People from all over the world come to town to go to all sorts of events like Elvis Tribute Artist contests, showings of some of his famous movie appearances and concerts at a local theater and all culminating with the Candle Light Vigil at Graceland on the night of August 15th every year. People line up outside of Graceland and stand in line for the opportunity to walk along Elvis's grave site and remember him in their own, and often strange, way.

As a native Memphian and designated (unofficially) tour guide of Memphis, I had to take Alyssa out on the town to see what this week has to offer. We managed to make it downtown on Friday night for a Date Night/ Elvis Week Sightseeing Tour and managed to stumble upon some pretty interesting sights that Alyssa has already
blogged about . We also had intentions of attending the Candle Light Vigil, but unfortunately the night got away from me at work and I called it an early night, but there's always next year! I think we still had a great time and think it was a good introduction to Elvis Week for the girl and I hope she enjoyed it.

Anyway, if any of you are Elvis fans or Elvis fanatics or really don't care about him one way or another, I strongly suggest a trip to Memphis sometime between August 10th and August 16th and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Without further delay, one of my personal favorite Elvis performances. Enjoy ya'll!!

Ten Feet Off Beale

Playing The Name Game with Jessalyn Amber

WHAT DOES YOUR BLOG NAME MEAN?
I knew that naming my blog would be an extremely important decision. I threw around a couple different ideas but so many were already taken by blogs that haven't been updated in years... talk about discouraging. When it came down to picking a name, I knew I wanted it to have something to do with the South or Memphis and how this is my new home. One day, out of the blue, it came to me. "Ten Feet Off Beale" comes from the song Walking in Memphis.I thought this was a good tribute.

MY BLOGS PURPOSE?
Starting a blog was something I had contemplated for a while. Pretty much since I moved to Memphis about a year ago. I was leaving my family and friends and moving to an entirely new place. I knew that I would be learning, growing, and creating memories. I felt like I needed a place to document and remember all the amazing experiences I was having and give everyone back home a way to check in on my life and see what I was up to whenever they wanted.

Recently, I have seen several bloggers who have decided to stop blogging. This got me thinking. It is important to always remember the reason for starting your blog and to never let it get to the point where you don't enjoy it. I'm not doing this for the number of followers (although you guys are awesome). I'm also not doing this to promote any business or make money or anything. I'm doing this for fun and if it ever isn't fun anymore, that's when I'll stop. But for now, I'm having a blast!

This is me at Graceland!

The Name Game

Elvis is in the Building

Last night was date night so Jeremy and I headed into downtown Memphis...

Our first stop was a riverboat tour of the Mississippi River.

Thennn if that wasn't enough Memphis fun, we headed over to see a Redbirds game.

Autozone Park has Veggie Hotdogs... It was awesomeeee being able to eat a hotdog at a baseball game! It's the simple things.

Now, since it's Elvis week here in Memphis, we had to go down Beale street. We figured we'd just wander and we'd stumble upon something. After passing dozens of Elvis impersonators (which was hilarious) we went to one of our favorite spots, Blues City Cafe, and to our surprise Hillbilly Casino was playing! They are a rockabilly band that play there occasionally. We'd seen them a few times, they're so much fun to watch.

Oh, and Elvis was totally at the next table... too funny!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Fill In the Blank Friday

Trying out this fun blog linkup with Lauren @ the little things we do anddd it's her birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAUREN!

1.   My most favorite birthday was most of them! Ok, I know I'm taking an easy way out with this one but I can honestly think of something that I enjoyed and loved about most of my birthdays!

2.  My worst birthday was  probably last year, when I turned 22. I had just moved here and did not know anybody. I just hung out by myself at my apartment.

3.  My favorite birthday memory is  when Catherine and Mary made me a birthday sign for my 21st birthday. It had 21 things that I had to complete that night. Things such as beating three people at rock paper scissors, winning a chug race, and hopscotching to the next bar. It was really fun :)

4.  The best birthday present I've ever received was  I don't know if I can pick a favorite! I really appreciate when people take the time to choose something for me that they know I'll enjoy. I especially like when people write me a personalized message in birthday cards... none of that To: Alyssa From: whoever.. hah

5.  The  best birthday present I've ever given was   umm good questions.. I try to be a good present picker-outer sometimes though I think what I imagine is never quite as good as the results... hopefully a certain upcoming birthday though will have some good presents ;)

6.  Birthdays are   exciting. Everyone gets one day every year, so why not enjoy what is yours and celebrate!

7.  My favorite age so far has been   22.. I'd say it's been a pretty good year
